Bust of John II Casimir Vasa in profile to the right wearing a crown and armor (with an exposed arm) covered with a cloak. On the chest a chain with the Order of the Golden Fleece.
In the rim an inscription punctuated at the top with a crown: IOH CAS D G REX POL & SUEC M D L R P
Rw.:
Two lions support an oval shield with the coat of arms of Gdansk. Above the shield two laurel leaves, on them a wreath of rosettes with a five-leaved branch. Under the lions' paws initials D - L (of Daniel Lesse - lessee of the Danzig mint in 1650-1685). Below the shield an ornamental console.
In the rim: MON AUREA CIVIT GEDANENS 1661
Bust wearing crown with rim decorated with rosettes. Exposed arm decorated with braid and rivets. The mantle is fastened with a brooch.
Inscription variant with the titular IOH ... REX POL ... in the rim on the obverse - rarer.
Punctuation variant without a dot between the letters R and P ending the king's titula.
Condition: 2-
Slightly wavy surface and a minor scratch on the obverse (visible in the photos) without affecting the coin's presentation. Beautifully minted and preserved piece. Good detail. Gloss and lots of mint mirror. A very nice and rare coin.
