Sigismund III Vasa, Grosz 1597, Wschowa formerly Poznan - rarity - beautiful
Characteristic grosz of Sigismund III Vasa with the coat of arms of Lewart
(Jan Firlej - Grand Treasurer of the Crown) on the obverse and reverse. Until recently, the coin was attributed to the mint in Poznan. In light of recent research by Ryszard Piotr Kozłowski, classified to the Wschowa mint.
Av: Bust of the king wearing a crown. In the rim, an inscription punctuated at the top with a crown and at the bottom with the Lewart coat of arms in a shield: SIG III D G R - [ EX ] PO M D L
Rw: Vasa coat of arms shield. On the sides of the shield the date 15 - 97 Below, the coats of arms of Poland and Lithuania (Crowned Eagle and Pogo) separated by the numeral I (marking the value in grosz). Below the coat of arms of Lewart in a shield and initials I - F (of Jan Firlej - Grand Treasurer of the Crown) on the sides of the shield.
Inthe rim an inscription separated at the top by a crown and at the bottom by shields with mintmarks "Rose" and "branch with three berries": GROSSVS - [ R - E ] GNI POL
The Lewart coat of arms in the shield is divided by an obverse inscription on the obverse.
The numeral I between the Eagle and the Pogo.
Obverse and reverse in borders. Inner borders stringed, outer borders of pearl.

State of preservation: NGC AU55
Minimal deficient obverse, but for this type a superbly minted and exquisitely preserved coin. Plastic, deep relief. Beautiful detail. Mint gloss and mirror finish. This is the piece that received the highest NGC AU55 grade and is the only piece with an AU55 grade. In this condition, the coin is extremely rare and practically unavailable on the collector market. In our opinion, this is the best piece that has appeared on the market in recent years. A beautiful piece to adorn the best collections.
