Bust of John II Casimir Vasa in profile to the right wearing a crown and armor covered with a cloak. On the chest a chain with the Order of the Golden Fleece.
In the rim an inscription punctuated at the top with a crown: IOAN CAS D G REX POL & SUEC M D
Rw.:
Two lions support an oval shield with the coat of arms of Gdansk. Above the shield a wreath of rosettes with a five-leaved branch. Under the lions' paws initials D - L (of Daniel Lesse - lessee of the Danzig mint in 1650-1685). Below the shield an ornamental console.
In the rim an inscription divided at the top by a branch: MON AUREA CIVITAT GEDANEN 1657
Inscription variant with the titular IOAN CAS ... SUEC M D in the rim on the obverse and ... GEDANEN in the rim on the reverse.
Condition: PCGS AU55
A beautifully struck and preserved piece. Good detail. Gloss and lots of mint mirror. High PCGS grade. Only one piece received a higher grade at PCGS. A rare vintage. In this state of preservation, the coin is rare and difficult to find on the collector market.
